Dear Parents and Carers
As we complete our second week of school, and our first full week of teaching and learning, I would like to say how incredibly proud we are of all the children. They have settled into their new classes with enthusiasm, maturity and a wonderful attitude towards learning. It has been a joy to see classrooms buzzing with excitement as the children engage in new experiences, build friendships and embrace the opportunities that the new school year brings. Their resilience, kindness and eagerness to learn have shone through, and we look forward to watching their confidence and achievements continue to grow in the weeks ahead.
All classes received a visit from Staffordshire Water Authority and were parsied for their listening and participation in workshops; hopefully children have come home and shared how we can save water in school and at home . . . not leaving taps on is our biggest action at Heathfields!!!!
PSHE
You may be aware that the government implemented a new curriculum for PSHE in September. We updated our policy, which was ratified by the governors and during the parent consultation, parents asked to be informed of the days of the day that their child will be having a PSHE lesson and what will be covered in the in topics. Unit overviews can be found on the website.
Reception has a PSHE lesson usually every Monday
Year 1 has a PSHE lesson usually every Tuesday
Year 2 has a PSHE lesson usually every Wednesday
Competition - Message from Staffordshire County Council
We're inviting schools in the Lichfield and Gailey areas to take part in our 'Name Our Gritters' colouring competition with a chance for the school and gritter name to be featured on the 11 new vehicles.
Each winter, our gritters help keep 4000 miles of Staffordshire's roads moving during cold weather, and we'd love your pupils to get involved by colouring in a gritter and suggesting a creative name for them.
This is a fun opportunity for children to learn more about the important role gritters play in helping people travel safely. Previous winning names have included some fantastic puns and imaginative ideas, and we're excited to see what your pupils come up with this year.
How to enter
- Complete the gritting colouring competition sheet (that will be placed in your child's reading bag on Monday)
- As a family suggest a name and record this on the gritter (in the box above the smile)
- Make sure each entry includes the pupil's first name, age and school.

Please send all entries to your child's class teacher no later than Thursday 17th September.
We have provided a selection of names below for pupils to choose from, but they are also encouraged to come up with their own ideas. The more creative the better!

Winning entries will be selected by Staffordshire County Council, and the winning names will be displayed on gritters operating across the county this winter. The winning gritters will then take part in a school visit to reveal their new names to your pupils.

Let's Check In After the Summer Holidays. The start of a new school year is a great opportunity for us to reconnect with families and to hear how things are going.
Help Shape Future Parent Workshops. We want our parent/carer sessions to be useful and relevant to you. During the first workshop, we'll be asking for your ideas about future sessions and training that you would like us to offer. Last academic year we covered emotion coaching, anxiety, wellbeing, art journaling.

Parent Survey - Reception and Year 1 parents only
Heathfields has been chosen to take part in an important evaluation of active school travel. The evaluation findings will help Active Travel England (ATE) make walking, wheeling and cycling to school easier and safer for children.

The survey is to be completed by 14th October 2026.
ATE has asked the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) to evaluate ways to help children travel actively to school. The survey asks about children’s travel to school behaviour and attitudes
Request from teachers
Year 2 are studying schools and looking at the similarities and differences of Heathfields and schools in the past. Do you (parents or grandparents) have any photographs of schools from your childhood that we could borrow? Or did you attend Heathfields yourself and have photographs of our school from the past?
We have moved our library to a larger area in the school. We are now looking to make this area more inviting and comfortable for the children. Mrs Lampitt wants some bean bags, cushions and blankets. If you have any good quality spare items we would appreciate these
