Wilnecote Weekly Update - 2nd October 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

Here's a look at some of the wonderful things happening across our school community.

Firstly, a huge well done to our Year 5 children for their fantastic class assemblies this week, which explored themes of Diversity, British Values and our school PRIDE values. I was incredibly impressed by the children's confidence, enthusiasm and excellent oracy skills as they shared their learning with such maturity and pride. Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us; it was wonderful to see so many of you there to support the children and celebrate their hard work.

Year 4 have enjoyed their first Sustainability afternoon of the year, giving families an opportunity to get involved and see some of the exciting learning taking place in our outdoor provision. We hope all those who visited enjoyed the experience.

Our children have also had the pleasure of enjoying a fabulous music concert delivered by Mrs Kimber, showcasing the power of music to inspire, entertain and bring us together. It was a fantastic experience and one that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

School Photos

Individual and sibling photographs will take place on Thursday 8th October. If you would like your child to have a photograph taken with siblings who do not attend Wilnecote, please arrive at the school office between 8:15am and 8:45am.

Photographs of siblings who attend Wilnecote will be arranged during the school day.

Healthy Snacks

Thank you to our families for supporting our healthy eating approach in school. We really appreciate your efforts in providing nutritious snacks and balanced packed lunches, helping children to develop positive habits that support their learning, wellbeing and long-term health.

As part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, we also encourage children to bring water to school wherever possible, as it helps keep them hydrated throughout the day without the added sugar that can be found in some drinks. We would also be grateful if grapes could be cut in half before being brought into school, as whole grapes can present a choking risk for young children. Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep all children healthy, happy and safe.

Book Fair This Week!

We are delighted to welcome the Book Fair to school this week! This is a wonderful opportunity for children and families to explore a fantastic range of books, discover new favourites and foster a lifelong love of reading.

The Book Fair will be open during both parents' evenings, so please do take the opportunity to visit, browse the selection and perhaps pick up a book as a special gift. Every purchase helps to support and enrich reading opportunities for our children in school.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Harvest Collection

To celebrate Harvest, we would like to support families and individuals in our local community by collecting donations for our local food bank. Food banks rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of local people, and every contribution helps to provide essential food and household items for those who need them most.

If you are able to donate, we would be very grateful for your support. Together, we can make a real difference and help ensure that everyone in our community has access to food and other essentials during challenging times.

Please send any donations into school by Monday 19th October.

Urgently needed food items:

  • Long-life Milk
  • Toiletries - deodorant, shampoo, conditioner
  • Tinned vegetables - Carrots/sweetcorn/potatoes
  • Tinned fish
  • Tinned meat - stew, curry, chilli, chicken, meatballs, hotdogs

Parents Evening

We look forward to welcoming you to parents evening next week. If you haven't booked an appointment yet, please log into Arbor to choose a suitable time for you.

Inclusion Resources for Families

Staffordshire County Council has shared a Padlet containing a wide range of resources, guidance and practical strategies to support inclusion of all children. We encourage parents and carers to explore the materials, which may provide useful information and support for children both at school and at home. The Padlet can be accessed via the link: Inclusion Resources

Holidays Activities and Food (HAF) Programme

Did you know that your child may be eligible for the 'Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme'? HAF provides free holiday clubs during school holidays, offering a range of exciting activities as well as a nutritious meal for eligible children and young people.

We encourage families to check whether they qualify and to explore the activities available in their area.

See the leaflets attached at the bottom of the newsletter for further details and eligibility information.
